At La Peony Clothing, we believe every garment tells a story. When you invest in a piece from our collection, you’re not just choosing quality and craftsmanship, you’re supporting a deeper value system. One where fair wages, ethical production, and artisanal communities are woven into everything we do.
We understand that thoughtful clothing often comes with a higher price point. That’s because you’re not simply paying for fabric and thread, you’re investing in a supply chain that puts people first.
Fashion That Honors People, Not Just Product
The story behind a garment matters just as much as the piece itself. That’s why our commitment to fair trade and wages begins with the artisan communities in Oaxaca, Mexico. These are women-led communities where traditional craft is more than a skill; it’s a way of life.
We partner with several groups that carry forward generational expertise in embroidery, weaving, and silk production— each with its own history, artistry, and cultural significance.
- Santo Tomás Jalieza: In this community, 90% of the population practices textile work. More than 60 women artisans specialize in backstrap weaving, which is a tradition LPC proudly helps preserve. Our partnership not only supports their craft but contributes to the growth of the local artisan market.
- San Pedro Cajonos: Home to the artisan group, ‘Artesanos de Seda de la Sierra Norte de Oaxaca,’ this community raises its own silkworms to produce some of the world’s finest silk threads. This rare, respectful process sustains the region’s primary income source and adds breathable, luxurious textiles to our collection.
- San Antonio Castillo Velasco: World-renowned for its vibrant, floral embroidery, artisans here use intricate, machine-free techniques such as the ‘hazme si puedes’ or “make me if you can” stitch— named for its complexity. These expressive designs blend ancestral identity with modern style.
In each of these regions, artisanal wages mean more than income. They represent independence, cultural resilience, and the power of women-led economies. We work closely with these groups to ensure that every collaboration reflects mutual respect, ethical standards, and equitable pay, because honoring the hands behind the work is just as important as the work itself.
Closer to home, our Los Angeles production partners share that same standard of care. With fair American wages, safe working conditions, and a deep focus on craftsmanship, our U.S.-based facility ensures that ethics are embedded at every stage of the production process.
This dual commitment—both domestically and internationally—is how we define quality: not just in how a garment looks, but in how it’s made and who it supports.
It’s More Than a Purchase, It’s a Shared Investment
When you choose LPC, you’re investing in more than a wardrobe. You’re investing in who we work with, how we produce, and why we care. Every dollar supports a network of makers, from California-based seamstresses to Oaxacan artisans— whose work is treated with the value it deserves.
We never cut corners or compromise quality for speed. Our pieces take time, intention, and skill, and our prices reflect that commitment. Because we’re not just selling clothing. We’re creating a brand that respects the entire process: from farm to fiber, to final stitch.
A Future Built on Fairness
Ethics And Elegance Aren’t Mutually Exclusive. They Belong Together.
As a brand rooted in sustainable clothing and luxury design wear, we’re intentional about every choice we make: from using low-impact dyes and recycled packaging to partnering with artisanal communities that are often underrepresented in the fashion industry.
Whether it’s an Artisan Palm and Leather Fedora embroidered by hand or the Debra Skirt sewn in our Los Angeles facility, each piece reflects more than just craftsmanship. It reflects a commitment to honoring people, protecting the planet, and creating garments that are truly made to last.
